To prosper, not to punish

Every morning I get out of bed and make myself exercise. I don’t necessarily like getting up early. And half the time I do not feel like working out at all. So why do I do it? I do it because I know that the benefits outweigh the cost. When I exercise in the morning, I immediately feel good. I am more alert. I am able to focus throughout the day. My mood improves. I have a better perspective. Within an hour of waking up, I feel a sense of power and accomplishment because I’ve already done hard work.

I exercise for myself -- my mood; my overall health (heart, brain, lungs, bones); my energy level throughout the day; my mindset; my goals.

I exercise for my family -- I model this behavior so my kids know the benefits of exercising and the importance of taking care of yourself. Usually, when they get out of bed in the morning, the first thing they see is me sweating on a mat in the living room. They have to walk past me to get to the kitchen to eat their breakfast. As they pass by, it is not unusual for them to encourage me by saying, “you got this!” or “way to go, Mom” or “only 10 more minutes!” They see that I want to stay healthy and strong -- not just today, but for my entire life. Taking care of my body now (and continually) is an investment in my future well-being.

I exercise for you -- my clients. Being a professional organizer involves hard work. On a daily basis I lift heavy boxes, I lug large bags, I move big items around. And, I need to be strong and fit to do so. I need to be able to maintain my balance. To have a good range of motion. In order to best serve you, I must exercise regularly.

When I exercise, I put in the work to prosper. Not to punish myself.

The same goes for organizing and maintaining your home. It’s hard to start. Maybe you look around and feel defeated, ashamed, and guilty. I am here to tell you to stop that! Do not punish yourself for the state of your home. That serves no one.

Flip your mindset from punishing to prospering. Just as it takes consistent and hard work to get your body into shape, the same is true for your home. You don’t have to do it alone, either. As a professional organizer, I am like the personal trainer that encourages and pushes you to do your best. To not give up. To take things one step at a time. As we tackle your spaces together, you will see the benefits -- more clarity, more calm, more energy, and more determination. I am here to remind you that “you got this!” Let’s prosper together!

You put in the work to prosper. You don’t put in the work to punish.
